Challenge 1 - Handling & Health
- Show that your dog is comfortable to be handled and checked by another person to include running their hands over the dogs body, inspecting ears, paws, teeth and gums. The dog should be happy to be handled without any signs nervousness or aggression.
- Sit (cue to be given by hander in an ‘unusual’ position, e.g. with their back to the dog, whilst jumping up and down, standing on 1 leg etc. video must show both dog and handler. Dog must sit on the first cue).
- Down (cue to be given by hander in an ‘unusual’ position, e.g. with their back to the dog, whilst jumping up and down, standing on 1 leg etc. video must show both dog and handler. Dog must lie down on the first cue).
- Dog to remain in a sit or down position whilst handler moves at least 5 steps away. The dog should stay for a minimum of 60 seconds before the handler returns to them to reward/release.
- Dog to come when called from a minimum of 12 feet away. This should be done outside with some distractions, such as people, children playing, birds, other dogs, noise, toys etc. Use of a long line is permitted.
- Dog to walk with a loose lead (outside) consistently (video to show 60 seconds) with at least one turn included. You should also demonstrate walking at different speeds. This should be on a public path and there should be some distractions e.g. cars, bikes, people, other dogs etc. They may walk on either side of the handler. A tight heel position is not required but the lead needs to remain loose and the dog should be paying attention to the handler.

- Achoo! (dog to fetch a tissue from a tissue box and give it to handler on a sneeze cue, and then place the tissue into a bin)
- Hold an object in mouth for 10 seconds
- Skateboard with 2,3 or 4 legs (dog to push a skateboard for at least 3 feet with 2-4 paws on the skateboard)
- Rubbish in the bin (dog to put 3 pieces of rubbish in a row into an open top bin, each piece of rubbish can be cued)
- Tidy up toys (dog to put 3 toys in a row in a box or basket, each toy can be cued)
- Take a note or item to another person in a different room
- Hand signals (dog to perform any six tricks using hand signal cues only)
- Distance (dog to perform any three tricks in a row at least 12 feet away from the handler)
- Weave poles (dog to weave through at least 6 poles without luring)
- Reading (dog to respond to three different written words on cue cards by performing the matching behaviour)
- Cross your paws (dog to cross one paw over the other whilst lying down)
- Basketball (dog to drop a ball through a hoop)
- Fetch a drink/other item from the fridge or cupboard (dog to open fridge/cupboard, bring the item to the handler, and then go back to shut the door. Multiple cues can be used but the dog should only be rewarded at the end)
- Roll over
- Dog to open a door/gate, go through it, and close it again from the other side
- Painting (dog to hold a paintbrush in their mouth and make a purposeful paint mark on the paper)
- Fetch the phone (dog to fetch a phone when it rings from at least 6 feet away)
